At eBay.in, it has been our constant endeavor to improve buyer experience by providing great deals across a wide variety of products and helping buyers find them quickly. Along with this, we are also committed to providing our sellers an unmatched business platform that rewards quality products and good customer service with increased product visibility and sales.
In the last one year, some of the steps we have taken towards the same are more attractive deals for buyers, inclusion of larger number of sellers in promotions, marketing campaigns and use of eBay coupons to increase buyer transactions. With the intent of further improving overall buyer experience and to ensure inclusive growth for all sellers, we are making the following changes to the fees on eBay.in
Changes to Listing Fee Max Cap: Last year in July, the Listing Fee Max Cap was introduced with the intent of enabling our sellers to display their entire inventory in a cost effective manner. This pricing structure was successful in certain categories, while in others it caused an imbalance which impacted visibility of products. This in turn led to a bad finding experience for buyers. Thus to balance visibility for all listings, following fees will be applicable for sellers listing more than 1500 listings in a calendar month.
1. All listings in all categories, created and scheduled to go live on or after 00:00:01 IST on 16th September 2009, will be subject to the new pricing structure 2. Listings for a duration of 1 and 3 days will be charged Re. 1 irrespective of category they are listed in (excluding Books & Magazines, Movie & Music, Video & Computer games) 3. The max cap benefits will continue to be computed on seller’s listings in a calendar month. 4. The discounted fee above 1500 listings in a calendar month shall be charged during the listing process and credited back within 30 days of the end of the calendar month 5. For sellers listing less than 1500 listings in a calendar month, the fee continues to remain Re.1 per listing 6. Final Value Fee for all categories remains the same, subject to minimum Rs. 3.
Introduction of 30 day Fixed Price (Buy it Now) listing duration for all sellers in addition to the current 3,5,7 and 10 day listing duration. We believe this new listing duration will allow sellers to display their slow moving items over a longer period of time, without having to re-list the items multiple times. href="http://pages.ebay.in/marketplace/marketplace_changes.html#3">Click here to see the details of listing & feature fees for the 30 day fixed price format.
Greater value for shop sellers: With introduction of 30 day duration listing, all shop listings will become part of fixed price listings and will enjoy increased visibility in core search results. Good ‘Til Cancelled format will continue to remain available only for shop listings. Shop listings will also get discounted listing and feature fees. href="http://pages.ebay.in/marketplace/marketplace_changes.html#3">Click here to see the discounted fee for shop listings. Given the increased benefits for shop sellers, the revised shop subscription fee shall be as follows.
The new 30 day fixed price format will be available from 10th September 2009. The revised listing fee on the 30 day fixed price format, changes in Feature fees and Shop subscription fees shall be effective on all listings created or scheduled to go live on or after 00:00:01 IST on 10th September 2009.
Which sellers will be impacted? All sellers listing in all categories on eBay India Sellers who have listed more than 20 listings on eBay since their time of registration on eBay, will be charged Listing Fees. Sellers who are creating their 20th listing or less than the 20th listing on eBay from the time of registration will not be charged the new listing fees.

I have heard many points of view on our recent changes. I seek to underscore the fact that the changes are being done with the goal of further improving the overall vibrancy of the marketplace. I do recognize the fact that some of sellers would need to make changes to their selling strategy on eBay and we are there at all points in time to guide & help you make changes while ensuring that your overall business on eBay continues to grow
Thanking you all again for your inputs & comments
If there are any other open questions, I would come back in a couple of days and answer the same
If we were to make Price+Shipping cost lowest as the default sort order, then for many search queries in the technology category, accessories would up showing up on top and thus create a negative perception amongst buyers
For example, try searching for Nokia and then sort on price+shipping lowest
To address your point of PaisaPay fees, I would like to state that the cost of managing PaisaPay is not just about Payment gateway charges, but includes many other cost components such as Operating costs, Chargeback risk provisions, Seller protection costs, Continuous investments in product upgradation etc.
Many of our sellers often tell us that even if one were to add up all the costs of selling on eBay (PaisaPay included), for the significantly higher quantum of traffic that eBay generates, it is a far better value proposition for a business as compared to many other avenues available online
We have chosen to continue with Zero Listing fees beyond the Max cap limit for Jewelery & Apparel categories because these are driven by huge variety and that too with multiple variants (in terms of Colour, Size etc)
Regarding your point on 6% fees for Video games being high. We will continue to monitor the market and Seller profitability and take regular calls on pricing accordingly
Please rest assured that we at eBay strongly believe in ensuring that our sellers have a profitable business channel on ebay, since our success depends on yours. Seeking your co-operation (as well as that of all sellers of the eBay community) in delivering Lots of Great deals to our buyers
I think the maximum sales in value (Rs.) on ebay.in is generated by our category and the maximum fees (FVF + Paisapay {credit card}) is also charged to our products.
And now we will be charged more on the listing fees.
In few categorise the listing fees are not applied and for some categories the other fees (FVF + Paisapay {credit card}) are very lower comapared to technology category.
The product which gives more business are charged more than the products which gives lower volume and value business are charged less
Moreover, the margins in our products are very very thin as compared to the other category of products.
It should be very easy to make default sorting to lowest price+ shipping, this option is already available , and if made as defualt then this problem will be over. With minimum duplicate listings allowed and the above sorting method, the buyer will always get the best deal available and no bad buying experience.
As I had mentioned to snrama, please do reconsider your strategy of 5 listings per unique product. This is actually part of the problem that we are trying to address here
Fast moving inventory can be listed in the regular 5 or 7 duration and slower moving inventory in the 30 day FP format
With the nominal 50 paisa on incremental listings above 1500 a month, we do believe that sellers would be cautious in listings multiples of the same product thus ensuring greater visibility for the quality inventory that our sellers bring to the marketplace
I should state that we had evaluated your suggestion of having multiple Max Cap slabs, but chose to go with the 50 paisa only beyond 1500 listings because of the sheer simplicity of understanding and implementation
Given the nature of the change in Listing fee Max Cap, I would urge you to reconsider your strategy of listing each unique product 5 times. Also, please do leverage the new 30 day fixed price format which is far cheaper than the regular listing
Part of the reason why there was so much clutter on the site (& thus negative experience to buyers), was that many seller chose to list the same product multiple times. In fact, in Technology categories (more so in branded products as you have called out), we have seen that Pricing of the item plays a far more important role than listing multiple listings of the same product (with the intent of maximizing visibility on search results page because of the default sort order being time ending soonest)
As you may be aware, in many eBay sites globally, Best Match algorithm is the default sort logic for Search (as opposed to Time ending soonest on eBay.in). This sort logic considers multiple parameters such as popularity of the item (item views, bids, recent sales etc), Price of the item, Seller's service standards etc. We are evaluating this sort option
Is there any difference is selling principle for various categories, why Jewellery is expempted for fees after max cap of 1500/-, media categories are totally exempted, but for this category 6% FVF charges is quite high. We do listings in Media / technology. We get better response in technology products as we are keeping a low margins but with 6% FVF in media category , we can't offer discount to buyer and normally sell items on MRP, which does not attract buyers. Reducing of this 6% FVF for video games also should be considered.
Same here sir around 1000 Unique listings X 5 = 20000 Listings per month.
Profits would certainly vanish in listing fees instead slabs also can be given to sellers according to the total sales they do like a seller does so and so sales he is eligible for the max cap limit provided the multiple listings policy is not taken advantage of.
Regarding your suggestion on eBay negotiating with courier companies to provide discounted rates to our sellers, this is something we have done in the past but had met with limited success because large courier companies are unwilling to provide attractive rates if they need to invoice each seller separately
Further, if this negotiated rate is optional for sellers, the negotiating leverage is limited because in any such commercial negotiation the vendor would always seek some kind of volume guarantees (which we would not be able to provide if this is optional for sellers)
That said, reducing the friction in Shipping (for both Buyers & Sellers) and ensuring lower costs / better service levels from courier is something we believe is important and are in the process of evaluating options on this front
Regarding your point on Shops becoming unviable for new sellers, A Shop bring multiple benefits to our sellers. namely :
* Lower Listing fee for the 30 day FP duration (with greater visibility on core search results) * Lower Feature (Listing upgrade) fees which can be leveraged to gain even more visibility * Free Selling Manager (or Selling Manager Pro) - depending on the Shop subscription tier which provides multiple features to more efficiently manage & grow your business on eBay.in * A dedicated URL for your Shop online that you could use in various Marketing / Promotional material * Markdown manager feature to run discount sale promotions exclusively in your store * Email marketing feature that you could effectively use to market to your existing buyer base and increase repeat buyers
Thus, we would strongly urge our sellers to not view Shop subscription fees in isolation, but rather look at the overall set of benefits one gains from the Shop
If the max cap is increased then it will definitely affect our profitability, we might not even think of listing items which are very slow moving but sells, its very difficult to pin point all those items, we should be given a chance to list all items with some way or other. Suggestions: 1. Reduce the duplicate listings to bare minimum ( may be 1-2) , now the rule of allowing 10 duplicate listings is not good for site. 2. Increase the Max cap to 2000 - 2500/- , this is due to fact that its very difficult to maintain the details of all products and its closing time vis a vis listing fees, when to list , what to list how many times list in a month, its not possible to maitain these records. 3. Ways to find that if the seller does not have any duplicate listings , then the Max cap of 1500/- should continue. MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO AVOID OR FINISH ALL DUPLICATE LISTINGS BY ANY SELLER, DUPLICATE LISTINGS DOES NOT GIVE ADVATAGE TO ANY BUYER.
Its nice to see you on a workshop after a longtime. There are many changes going on at eBay.
Firstly the Listing view, PaisaPay Refund Option and etc..
Now, Pricing Changes, 30 day listing and Increased Visibility to Shop Listings & Global EasyBuy.
I don't thing that the Removing the 1500 Maximum Cap benefits to seller like me.
I deal with most of the branded products like SONY, Kingston, SteelSeries, Sandisk and many other brands.. We upload a minimum of 5 listing for each unique product
For 300 unique products x 5 listings = Around 6000 listings per month. Its certainly not profitable for me if I don't get good sales.
If PaisaPay charges are reduced (i.e OBT for 1.5% and credit cards for 3%), then atleast sellers can recover the expenses.
Global EasyBuy: I liked this option. Buyers can purchase internationally through PaisaPay. --------------- With Regards, Navaneeth (snrama)
Dear Harsh (harshcorp05), anand_online and indiabigbaazar
Regarding your point of sellers in the Technology category wanting to list a larger inventory on site and the related impact on their Listing fees and thus margins, I would like to point out that we have increased the Listing fees in Technology categories beyond the 1500 limit to a very nominal 50 paisa only per listing. Further, for slower moving inventory, we would strongly encourage you to use the 30 Day fixed price format which is available at just 1Re (for the 30 day duration) - implying a 25 paisa a week listing fee. That said, do remember that our FVF for Technology categories is ONLY 1%
With respect to your point on the Listing fee above the 1500 limit being too low, it is our belief that the Community of eBay sellers, with the right kind of pricing structure would be able to provide a wide variety of products to our buyers
The intent of increasing the Listing fee to a nominal 50 paisa per listing purely is to ensure that sellers focus on listing items that have a potential to sell rather than adopting strategies (like multiple listings) that negatively impact the overall vibrancy of the marketplace
At the same time, we are also cognizant that for our large sellers, this could be big change (from a cost perspective) and thus we wanted to continue with a pricing structure that would enable our large sellers to list their entire inventory on site (and actually grow that on a continuous basis thanks to their excellent product sourcing skills)
Such a quantum jump in the Listing fees (beyond 1500 listings) - to Rs 5 per listing as you had suggested would have acted to the detriment of our goal of having the widest possible variety on site
Further, I would like to reiterate our goal of rebalancing the pricing on eBay.in to be more backloaded (in terms of FVF & PaisaPay fees) rather than front load (Listing fees). That way, we ensure that our incentives are aligned better with those of our sellers. The pricing change done in July 2008 was a big move in this direction
Good suggestion by harsh, I am also of the opinion that tech categories should be charges minimum for listing, Max cap of 1500/- was good and we were getting good results by show casing all our products including slow moving items
Sellers who have not taken advantage of the max cap limit till now and who have a larger unique inventory in technology category it would really be tough to survive as the margins in the tech category are thin compared to other categories and if we don’t showcase our complete unique inventory margins would vanish in terms of listing fees. Pls do something about the listing fees in the tech category as it is a major contributor to the site.
Thanks for taking the time to participate in this Open House
Firstly, I would like to lay out the fundamental principles which guided our recent announcement on changes to the eBay India marketplace
The key highlights of the same were : * Introduction of a new 30 day Fixed Price format which gets additional visiblity on the Core search results (as opposed to the Shop Inventory format which used to the appear at the end of the core search results) * Changes to Listing Fee Max Cap discounts for specific categories * Additional value to Shop subscribers in terms of lower listing fee and Feature fees
The rationale for new 30 day fixed price format was to ensure that sellers can leverage this cost effective format to list their slower moving inventory while at the same time listing their key products in the regular Auction & Fixed price formats (durations ranging from 1 to 10 days)
With respect to the Listing fees Max cap changes, we had observed that while this change that we introduced in July last year had resulted in strong overall growth in listings, in many categories this was also characterized by additional clutter (by way of Multiple listings) that had negatively impacted the Finding experience for our Buyers and at the same time had caused an imbalance in the marketplace. In order to correct this imbalance and reduce clutter while at the same time ensuring that large listers still have an incentive to list their entire inventory on the site, we are increasing the listing fees in certain categories (beyond 1500 listings in a calendar month) to 50 paise
This change actually does not impact a vast majority of our sellers who do not cross the 1500 listings limit on a monthly basis. Rather, this change gives a vast majority of our sellers the advantage of greater visibility for their quality inventory on the site and this greater potential for growth
hello , sir i have suggestion relating to courier policy for ebay india , courier services are good in our country , but some cheap couriers are there like dtdc who deliver nin 15-20 rs. all over india , but they took time , one courier is blue dart who deliver mostly next day in metros , or all major ciy from small towns like amritsar they deliver next day to goa before 2 pm ..........al sellers cant afford blue dart , if ebay can tie up with blue dart then we we can deliver our products fast and in secure mode , it will increase buyer satisfaction and decrease hassle ,,,,,,,,,i m nt mean that it must be complsery for all sellers , but ebay can give some sellers choice of blue dart at cheap cost ........... with regardssss

PaisaPay fees are way too high and these need to be broght down to realistic level, otherwise we cannot sell high end products like notebook pcs and mobile phones where offline margins are very low.
Offline margins for notebooks is about 4%-5% and for mobile phones about 2%-5% including cc charges.
On ebay it works out to ebay + pp fees work 5.5% and if a seller offers emi and buyer opts for it it comes to 7%+ Add to this sundry charges such as listing fees, shop subscription, listing upgrade charges, TnS cost, etc, the total selling expense goes to 8%-9%. At this phenomenal high charges, it is very difficult to sell notebooks.
Last week, I sold one notebook, made profit of just Rs.300/- after taking Cash Discount from vendor but ended up paying ebay Rs.1590/- for fees PP charges.. Still buyer fees the product is too expensive.
We need to get the PP charges below 2% atleast for high value transaction of say above Rs.10,000/-
EMI charges of 1.5% should be passed on to the buyer, so that one buyer does not cross subsidise another.
OBT charges should be brought down to 1% as there is no chargeback risk in OBT and most banks just charge about Rs.5/- for Rs.10/- for OBT regardless of amount of transaction.
ebaY is simply fooling the sellers by saying we charge only 1% FVF but making another 2%-3% in PasiaPay fees.
What I would suggest is bring back the slab wise FVF again and reduce the PP fees.
We need to grow this business first than looking at increasing revenues by such methods as PaisaPay fees. Wouldn't be better be to offer lower PP charges than send out coupons every week. Make the site competitive in pricing with offine by sensible fees (incl. PP) rather than by incentive driven DDOW and discount vouchers.
HI , ONCE AGAIN , I THINK EBAY SHOULD INCREASE LISTNING FEES AND REDUCE PAISA PAY FEES , IT WILL WORK VERY GOOD ,,,,,,,,,IT WILL REDUCE SPAM AND DECRESE PRICE OF PRODUCTS ,,,,,,
Just did a quick browse of your listings and it seems you have about 600-700 unique skus.
So as per the new policy if you list them all on 30 days listings, you will end up paying only Rs.1000/- as total listings fees including basic shop fees.
That is less than what you are currently paying under max cap.
So I think the new rules would bring your listings fees down by a minimum of Rs.6000/- per year.
I think we should go out and have a a party with the 6 K you would be saving per year, rather than making repeated posts about the same thing
Unless of course you beleive, you have to list the same product 30 times every month and 365 times every year to get sales
HI , ALL I THINK ITSHAVE BOTH PSTIV AND NEHATIVE PONTS , IT WILL INCREASE THE BILL OF SOME BIG SELLERS , BUT ITS GOOD IT WILL STOP SPAMMING ON EBAY ,,,,,,
Oh Amitava Thank you so much for explaining it to me Dear I am also a small fish like you in this ebay's ocean. I too have to wait for a long time to sell my qualitative items I never do spamming.
