Ambareesh will be available on this thread on Wednesday, the 26th of April, 2006, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST, for an interactive discussion with our community members.
Dear Indianexpo Thanks for your involvement in the discussions and pertinent questions. Getting a seamless payment mechanism for international sellers is a high priority for us. Regards...Ambareesh
I know and understand the limitations ebay india is facing quiet well...But pushing, leg pulling and finger pointing is our role on community boards... I hope you dont mind.
My next statement is not related to current topic BUT no proper integrated payment gateway for Indians to list on OTHER ebay sites is the major barrier for Indian sellers.
We need a quick fast and effective payment gateway which is acceptable on other sites..especially eBay.com
Regards and Many thanks for all your time and quick responses.
Ambareesh will be available for a further 15 minutes on the board. Feel free to ask questions for Ambareesh by clicking on the "Post a reply" link at the top and bottom of this page.
Thanks and Regards, Rohit, Community Development Team
Dear best10000deals As paypal is not present in India, the paypal option is not available for listings created on the India site even if you choose worldwide shipping. We are looking to incoporate this functionality in the future and shall keep you posted on further developments. Regards...Ambareesh
Dear Indianexpo I understand the limitations involved, which is why the first part of my post indicates that we are in the process of mapping C&I with other important eBay sites, we have been doing it in the past and shall continue to do this in the future. Any specific feedback (such as the one you have posted) will help us do this better. However the product finder is a buyer site dependent tool and ebay.in listings will face limitations in specific categories on other sites. Regards...Ambareesh
Dear sabinagrawal For your reference i am providing below the eBay India food related policy... "Listing of food product / items shall be subject to the sellers procuring the necessary licenses and approvals and to comply with local laws and regulations relating to prevention of food adulteration, packaging and ingredient disclosure requirements.
We will provide you with necessary information on this exercise as and when we receive any updates from the Government. However, till such time we receive any confirmation or clarity from the Government, we are moving these categories to the Prohibited List and hence we request you to kindly refrain from listing and selling items in these categories. We are also moving the Food, Beverages & Nutrition supplements related products to the Prohibited list for the reasons stated above" Regards...Ambareesh
Dear touch_n_shine If all items have gallery image there will be no differentiation amongst different items and gallery image in itself would not serve as a differentiator for quality merchandise. Regards...Ambareesh
Dear Indexpo Category alignment to other eBay sites is a continuous process due to C&I optimizations across the world. In case you wish to use tools such as the product finder, some of these (like the jewelery product finder)are very specific to the sites on which the buyers are searching, therefore to make full use of them, you would need to list on the buyers site itself. Regards...Ambareesh
Hi Ambareesh -- Sorry but I m not satisfied with your answer -- We believe and know that a listing with gallery has 2 times chances of sales then a non gallery listing. This over the longer term should help us improve the quality of merchandise and therefore overall buyer experience on site. If all sellers will be using gallery listing then ebay would also gain from this -- YES OR NO ?????
Dear cosycom We encourage sales to other countries and have over the last few months already offered significant promotions on the International Listing feature. We shall continue to provide meaningful benefits to sellers selling internationally through promotions and other initiatives. For example, Indian listings are treated on par with listings on ebay.com which gives our international sellers a level playing field even while selling to countries like the US. Regards...Ambareesh
Dear ankushiinfotech 1.I have already given a response on a related post on Gallery Fee earlier, trust that would also answer your query 2.I agree with you that mis-categorization is a serious issue and should be avoided, as part of the Sell Your Item page today we provide recommendations to our sellers on where the item should be listed, and in case you do not find a relevant category, I would suggest you place the item under “others” also while listings on others use the email ID provided there to give feedback on the category structure. As I had indicated earlier, we constantly seek feedback on category structures so please also post the same on the category discussion boards so that all views can be tabled. 3.I take your feedback on Home page feature and we are working towards adding value to this feature for our sellers (refer my earlier post on Home Page Gallery Image) Regards...Ambareesh
Hello Mysalesoffer We believe that Gallery Fee is a strong tool in a sellers hand to differentiate his more saleable products from the slower moving ones. For sellers with a large amount of inventory or listings which you wish to maintain for a longer period of time, we would suggest this inventory be placed in shops and the faster moving items or items with restricted inventory with you be included as regular listings along with the gallery image so as to improve success rates and your profitability. Regards...Ambareesh
Hello themusicmart, Thank you for your suggestion. I have forwarded it to my colleague, Biren Sampat for consideration in the next changes we make to the category structure. Regards...Ambareesh
1.I am not sure I understood your query. If you have decided to sell some items on eBay, and have listed those items, it is your responsibility to ensure that you take necessary care while dispatching the item to the buyer. eBay has a feedback system by which the buyer can rate you after the transaction. In addition, the buyer can always contact you at any stage during the transaction. You can also contact the buyer and ask him if he has received the product. As a seller you do not have a risk of non-payment as all transactions are paid for in advance by the buyers, and you can ship only after the payment is received by you. 2.Yes, sellers are responsible for damages in the product. Hence we suggest that you use a reputed courier company and good packaging material. 3.The fee per successful transaction on eBay is 5 % for Item Value up to Rs. 4,000. For items above Rs. 4,000, it is 5% of the initial Rs. 4,000 (Rs. 200.00), plus 2.5% of the remaining closing value. There are additional fees (optional) for various other features that you might choose to promote your listing. You can view our complete fee details here - http://pages.ebay.in/help/account/fees.html Regards...Ambareesh
Hello snrama and emailswarup, Firstly, thank you for your regular contributions on the Discussion Boards. We need more Community champions like you!
I shall forward your suggestions on Category structure changes to Biren Sampat. Who is responsible for what we call 'Categories & Infrastructure (C&I)'. C&I is about providing our buyers a fast and convenient method to find the products they are looking for easily. Category structure thus forms a very important role and apart from it, attributes or product finders is another very important element. Users can also visit the Categories Discussion Board, where you can regularly post feedback on current category structure as well as propose any changes that you feel are appropriate. As I had indicated in an earlier post, we periodically review and revise the category structure, and shall consider all your inputs while making the next change.
Regarding the Homepage feature with Gallery, our product team is already working on its feasability and we should be able to confirm this sometime in Jun-Jul ’06, we will be in a position to give a specific date only by June. Regards...Ambareesh
Hello touch_and_shine, bunty_1979, mysalesoffer We have received feedback from our sellers, feedback regarding the Gallery Fee charge. Gallery Fees has been introduced for sellers to distinguish their listings from other sellers. It’s like any other feature fees which increase your chances of sales on a listing. We believe and know that a listing with gallery has 2 times chances of sales then a non gallery listing. This over the longer term should help us improve the quality of merchandise and therefore overall buyer experience on site. Regards...Ambareesh
Dear indconcepts Thank you for being such a regular participant on the Discussion Boards, and taking the time and effort to educate our new users. As I had mentioned briefly in the introduction, seller marketing takes care of the seller side of the business and specifically takes care of the following…
• Acquisition of new sellers through mass attract seminars, trade show participation and on-ramp programs to help new sellers list their merchandise • Scaling current sellers business by Seller Account Management (especially for top sellers), the power seller programs • Increasing adoption of useful features such as eBay Shops, features, Seller Tools so as to help scale the sellers business
Regarding your question on planned new Categories, we track performance (function of listings, quality of inventory, buyer searches etc) across categories on a regular basis and the moment we feel that there is significant potential for a new category, we introduce the same. We are currently in the midst of evaluating the current category structure and should be able to share and involve the community in the process over the next 1 month. Collectibles is one of the categories under consideration. Regards...Ambareesh

I shall begin by responding to the queries posted in advance of the event, and then move on to taking live questions. Regards...Ambareesh
With reference to prev mail , will we have to wait for simmilar alligned categories on eBay.com...., or its better to forget and concentrate on eBay.com rather try & sell internationally from India
Welcome to our Open House Session. Today, we have with us, Ambareesh Murty, Head - Categories and Seller Marketing with eBay India. Ambareesh will be present on the boards for the next hour, answering our user queries on using eBay.
Thanks and Regards, Rohit, Community Development Team
MISALIGNED CATEGORIES with eBay.com for international listings Dear Ambareesh,
I am yet to find a single category which is properly aligned with .com.
This makes us suffer as our international listings go in OTHERS category under main category on .com site.
I tried listing from India in Gems/jewelry & Clothing ...NO SUCCESS.. main reason is that people on .com take 2 steps to search a product :- 1) They enter a keyword e.g. AMETHYST ( loose gemstone) 2) Seeing 1000's of results they switch to "Product Finder" on Left hand Panel...Now they would short list by shape i.e. round oval etc etc.
Listings from India go in OTHERS and not in shapes and are IGNORED.
Similarly a buyer on .com would search for Women's TOP and then short list by size ...they on .com have MISSES PLUS PETITE etc with sizes xs to 4x in most to enable a buyer to short list and we have ONLY XS M L XL XXL ...and they go in others category....
Sir, we need same category mapping as on eBay.com , or listing on Indian eBay is of NO USE !
Hi Does anybody sell food on ebay, if they do (for example, a friend takes orders for brownies/cakes) where do you classify it? didnt see any "food" category on ebay.
Dear Mr. Ambreesh , I request you to add some more categories e.g. Display Signs , Electronic Display Boards , Shop accessories , Decor , Signage etc. as available on your other international sites.
We sell LED signs and display boards and it is very difficult to find a proper category for the same.We are forced to list them in other items categories .
As a result despite I have along list of International buyers there is not a single customer from India since the products can not be found easily on ebay.in site .
I also requested this to Mr. Gautam and Mr. Lahiri in previous discussion boards without any results so far.
You are also requested to look into any possibilties of export promotions from India by waiving off the listing fee on every successful International sale , as you certainly get handsome share on sale of the items also . I am sure this will generate more business to ebay and attract more sellers to go for international listing of their products.
I hope you will favourably consider our problem this time.
I can see my co - sellers are also suffering a lot with gallery feature being charged -- Same just like me -- bunty_1979, mysaleoffer and ankushinfotech are one of them. Well I know Ambareesh is going to give a single answer to us regarding this matter and the answer is going to be really disappointing -- b'coz it can never make us happy -- b'coz Ebay is not a seller on this site.
"ankushinfotech" --- Ebay can avoid giving reply to ur queries -- But hey we are also here who are reading this post and believe me I totally agree with all your points. You made me remember my old bazee days too.
Note to Ebay : Be generous --- Don't be a giant. Let small sellers grow too. It will be profitable for you as well.
I would like to point out few important points which are not good for sellers and suggestions for Ebay.in:
1) The Gallery should always be FREE as it was on baazee.com
ebay has changed lots of things in fees, on baazee the fees was always seller friendly.
All baazee seller would agree on my point.
Further I have been observing that ebay is charging what people uses most bcause of FREE. Now everything is being charged except INSERTION FEE.
And I assume that after few months the INSERTION FEES would also be charged by ebay.
2) Miscategorization is a greater problem on ebay.in now because there's not enough category for people with odd things to sell such as Solar Item, Solar Panel, Screen Scratch Cleaner, 3D Games, 3D Glasses, Virtual Reality items for Video & PC, Solar Light, etc.
The Seller is suffering now most bcause of daily suspension. The ebay staffs also not refering the proper category where it should be posted.
I myself has asked for suggestion and I was given and after two weeks the same item from the same category was deleted bcause ebay thinks it is in incorrect category.
Please instead of Suspending for 1Day, 3Days, infinite. Try to suggest sellers with the correct category or give them a new custom category to post their items.
3) Further the Home page featured listings fees should be lowered to Indian Standard (say around 75 for two category). Bcause in INDIA sellers item are all low cost with low profit so it isn't affordable for sellers to opt for HOMEPAGE Featured listings at Rs 150.
You may have seen the drastic reduction of HOMEPAGE FEATURED listing nowadays. It is reducing day by day. I have seen on baazee it was always over 300 featured listing. But on ebay.in is always below 70.
See the change.
I Hope the my posting is not get avoided bcause I mentioned the most problems faced by SELLERS.
I Can assume that my posting wouldn't be replied - I can be 100% assure. Because previously I have pointed out many facts and always it was avoided to be answered.
Dear Sir EBay start charging of gallery fee is becomes head ache for buyer and seller too Because who is selling item at low margin can not afford gallery because they have to pay gallery charge of unsold also So seller of that kind start not choose gallery option Now what happen buyer can not see item in gallery they have to open it all and see what kind of item is looking and wasting his limited time in just open page and can not buy because he/she waste his all time in just opening page and can not find item his/her use Instead of charge gallery if EBay increase charge of FVF or start charging FVF in shipping cost also In that way both buyer and seller can be happy and EBay increase his business and FVF too
Respected sir, My name is spurthi.I did like to clear out few doubts before i start selling because i do not like to go wrong in any type of transactions. My few questions regarding this are : 1)If i just choose any commodity from e-bay to sell it to my customers, how will i come to know if the product is sold safetly? 2)If there is any damage incurred in the product will i be responsible for it? 3)What is the fee per transactions in e-bay & what can be the maximum profit kept by a seller?
hi this is vishal well ebay again started charging gallery featured well i m not happy with it if this message is being read ny ebay members please forward it to your officials that if we do not display our products we will not be able to sell it and if we dont sell u wont make any business and even u will loose business and customers. kindly remove gallery feature getting charged if u want to make more money increase the ebay fees we are ready to pay that but cant afford to pay the gallery charges as if item is unsold then we have to pay from our pocket. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL SELLERS SO ON EACH AND EVERY SELLERS BEHALF I AM REQUESTING EBAY TEAM TO ELIMINATE THE GALLERY FEATURE CHARGES" WE WOULD BE VERY GREATFUL FOR THAT. THANKING YOU REGARDS VISHAL P.S. DO REPLY ME IN MY MAIL TO KNOW WHAT IS THE RESPONSE YOU GIVE TO OUR REQUESTS AND QUERIES.
It will be nice if you can create a sub-category of "weight range" for searching Loose gemstones / Jewellery. In India most of the people search gems for a particular weight range, hence it will be very useful.
Thanks for introducing so many categories in the Loose Gemstones section. However, in this list there is a new category as "Paridot". This is actually a common spelling error of "Peridot", which you already have in your categories. Similarly the actual spelling of "Labrodorite" is "Labradorite". Such errors are minute but will increase the perfection if corrected.
One major type of gem "missing" in this detailed list is Hessonite. Its true that Gomedh is included, but in India a wide range of gems such as Red Garnet, Brown Tourmaline, Hessonite etc. are all termed as Gomedh in different regions. So, either you can put Hessonite beside Gomedh (just like Coral), thus making it more specific or put Hessonite as a new category. . Best Regards Swarup Kolkata
