I thank Sapana and the eBay team for chosing Gopal's story as the best one. This is a tribute from a vibrant community with a universal reach, that is eBay to the shy artisan and enterpreneur from Orissa. Gopal represents the true spirit of India's faceless multitude, who are full of talent and potential.
As I told earlier, I think the stories here are few of the best ones I have ever read and it was a very difficult task for the judges to decide the best one...
However, After lot of deliberation...the winner is essech
To quote one of the judges "this story truly showcases the innate goodness that humans have". I am so glad you were able to help out your friend Gopal. Wishing you and Gopal all the very best for all your future endeavours.
First when I see TV advertise of bazzy.com I check this site and becomes reg. as buyer and buy few thing from site and get some good item when my friends see item when I reach about 8 feedback score bazzee change in eBay in. At that time I don’t know that we can sell also in eBay in. First I start some buy from eBay in and sell it to friends groups All I am doing just for fun and when I was free my time to search item in eBay in. After some time pass I found that you also can sell item to eBay so I becomes reg.as seller and buy item from eBay and then sell that item in eBay and make little profit At my office I have unlimited internet connection so when I found my self free I buy or list item After some time pass I purchase some item from big store and sale start selling it to eBay in. EBay rule was not easy to understand and 2 times I also suspend for listing policy violation but I was a business man and know how to satisfy to customer there fore I don’t get complain from customer After some time pass because my selling capacity was good so came in contact of so many whole seller importer of consumer good First I was using eBay for fun only and a site for time pass but after some selling I get in touch with so many good buyers and make him good friend What good I found in eBay is that you can convert your spare time in cash and also can make so many friends and at yesterday I also get invitation from eBay to join in as power seller Now I get 7 friends of my city and more then 100 from all over India what I earn more valuable then what I get profit from eBay
I recently transacted with my personal account and wanted to say "Hats off" to one of my seller.
Yesterday, I purchased an item from adoracollections I made the payment via PaisaPay at around 9.30 am and contacted the seller via email to deliver the item to me on the same day, if possible, as I had to gift it to one of my friend. The seller checked his email and instantly called me at 11.30 am informing that he will try his best to deliver the item to me on the same day...apart from calling me, he also send me a mail about the same. It was a great way of keeping the buyer informed about the deal....At around 2.30 pm, I was surprised to receive the delivery of my item and the person (delivery man) asked me to check the item there itself and also the certificate and the bill for any discrepancies. The product was in excellent condition, what impressed me the most was the way the deal was handled- Within 6 hours the deal was completed! I immediately left a feedback against him....and now what I see is that the seller too has left a feedback for me.
Adoracollections was excellent in communicating with me about the delivery of the item, the item quality/ packaging and the way the transaction was handled.
As a buyer it was the best experience I ever had! This has definitely encouraged me to inform all my friends to transact with this seller.
WOW...thanks for posting some of the best stories I have ever read. Truth to be said, I actually found myself smiling and touched after having read the stories.
I think it is a mighty difficult task to choose the winner. I will be soon posting the same.
I will keep the thread open for all to read and post their respective stories.
Though I couldn't parcipitate on this contest as I was in chennai for some other work.
I want to share this as its one of my experience.
One of my buyer (Srinivas) made a ordered for around 50 Blank DVDs and made the payment through PaisaPay (credit card). He made the shipping charges of approx Rs.150. The coincidence is he leaves very near to my home/office. It was just a 2 min walk from my home. I handled him the product at night 10:45 with the shipping charges. He was very happy.
So from then onwards, I look on to the address of the buyer and if he stays near by, then I don't charge the shipping charges and offer him to pickup and pay. --------------- With Regards, Navaneeth (snrama)
I had a very interesting and wonderful experience.
I am based in Delhi. One day I received an invitation from ebay to attend a seminar in Bombay. I was to take a flight on 25th August 2005 to attend the seminar on 26th August 2005. There were 5 sellers and 3 Buyers invited from all over India.
On 25th August, after I left, a Buyer by the ID milas2004_in1 made a purchase from my ebay shop. My wife called me up and told me that there were few messages regarding payment clarification from this Buyer, by the name of Faisal, which needs urgent replies.
I was helpless, as I didn't had the access to Internet. I noted down the name and ID of my Buyer and thought I would reply when I return back or probably would give a call to him if I find time, between the seminar.
Next day morning at 10:00, I was sitting in the conference room with 7 other members. A small playcard depicting ebay ID was placed in front of every member.
To my astonishment, I could see the ID milas2004_in1 very next to mine. My Buyer Faisal was sitting just next to me. I picked up my note pad to confirm the ID.
What a coincidence!
An un-known Buyer located hundreds of miles away , sits next to me in a few hours, still un-known.
I and Faisal enjoyed this coincidence to the fullest and will cherish it throughout our life.
Faisal is a great friend of mine, since then.
ebay has really shortened the whole world. Everyday, you deal with so many people on ebay..... and the like minded ones becomes your friends , FOR EVER.
Hello Sapana, Bazee (now eBay) was a serendipitous discovery one ordinary December evening in 2002.But that chance sighting has opened up for me many new horizons; it has transformed my confined, run-off-the mill world into an enlightening, exciting and ever expanding terrain. EBay has helped me evolve.
I have been thrilled with my first sale—a used book for a forest officer living in the wilderness. I have been overwhelmed with the possibilities of eBay when a Mexican buyer has purchased an item. In fact every new sale, be it domestic or international, has come with its package of exhilaration and excitement. The satisfied buyers’ have swept me off my feet with their flattering words.
I have had my troubles and tribulations too. I have taken up issues with eBay, fought pitched battles with it, felt miserable when fake buyers have not completed sale and much more. Despite all these hiccups, eBay has ceaselessly grown on me, slowly and silently but irretrievably.
My most memorable happening here? The pride of place must go to my friendship with Gopal Meher. Gopal is a weaver of Bomkai sarees living in a remote village in one of Orissa’s most backward regions. Being young and educated, he is assigned the task of vending the products of his village’s looms in the many fairs held in the cities. It was during one such fair at Bhubaneswar that I met Gopal. The master craftsman, so deft at producing enchanting sarees, was a novice in the art of dealing with city people. It was clear that he was feeling lost and lonely in his stall. His lack of finesse had driven away most visitors. I was picking up merchandise from the fair for displaying in eBay when I chanced upon him. Somehow the vibes between us were right from the beginning: he felt confident and talked freely of his despair. He showed me the best pieces from a trunk he had not opened so far. I picked up my choices. He promised to show me more the day after at my home. A long-lasting relationship was about to begin. My whole family started liking him and sent presents for his wife and daughter. They also started giving unsolicited advice to him on city traps!
Gopal has made many visits to my city since then, and I have sold many of his favourite creations here at eBay.
More than the merchandise he has supplied me with numerous tidbits about the tradition of saree weaving and the life styles of weavers. He has reveled me with many interesting anecdotes and unknown facts. I now run a saree blog in the Internet, which draws heavily on these facts.
I wonder if I would have crossed this artistic young man’s path but for eBay.
The first Rupee which I earned in my life was on ebay which makes it so memorable for me. Here is my story.
18 yrs old into my post HSC vacations I was searching for a printer when the old bazee ad which used to come on TV flashed through my mind.
"The guy looks outside the window a sees a beautiful lady standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus. This guy sells all his stuff on bazee and buys a bike only to be caught by the cop and lady taking a bus. "
Although I wasnt aspiring as the guy in the ad was. I decided to check baazee out and landed up buying a printer much lesser than what my computer supplier quoted me.
I was kicked off with this idea and quickly made up my mind to sell Aromatherapy products which my mom had launched on baazee.
Export and domestic Orders poured in and so did my confidence
On being invited to ebay voices seminar much to most ebayers amusement I was a teenager already a powerseller on ebay. That is where I came to know about ebay live. A yearly event organized in USA. I realized my american dream by visiting ebay live 2005 San Jose California the headquaters of ebay. That is when I reliazed ebay is more than just a trading platform. It is a way of life to most people who were present there.
I was asked my by management professor to talk about ebay in my International Marketing class. My collegues called me more often "The ebay guy" than calling by my name. I used to use a ebay pen, bag, t-shirt, wrist watch and an ebay cap.
Ebay has eliminated International trade barriers and has realized the dream of buying and selling between 2 individuals in the real sense.
Almost all of this has happened with me • Finding your favourite product • Helping you start your own business • Helping you earn your pocket money • Finding a like minded friend • Or just making you feel happy
Still one of the deals which amused me the most was this guy from worli. He had bought a cordless phone from me some time in Jan'04. He never came on the phone himself but he had written a mail to me requesting to send the product to his office in return of a cheque. In those days i didnt even offer Cash On Delivery and it was surprising to find some one asking for the product against cheque.
The buyer mentioned that the Cheque wont bounce and i can trust him. I could make out form his email that he is a baazee employee.
After exchanging a few emails i could make out that the buyer was in a doubt wether the product was a chinese make or a original Panasonic. After my assurance he agreed to pay cash. Sill i wasent a stockist then but i somehow arranged some one to visit his office and deliver the product. I only remembered his name.
He left a positive feedback for me. It was rating no 83 for me. Today i am at 183 and if feels liek a 100 steps ahead and still quite a long way to go.
Later only after a few months during the mms controversy i came to know this was Avnish.Bajaj ... Superstores_Tech Ankur Agarwal
Hi all !! I like to tell a littlie bit different one. My husbanb had a good running business of philatelic items. On his sudden demise, I was left at the drkest side of the life as apart from the loss I suffered, I was under a bitter cold financial position as I did not know much of the parties who used to buy the items which we had a good stock of. One day, my son approached me , and asked me why do not we place it in Ebay, and we need not to search the parties -- rather whole world can see our product and you can do it from your house itself. We registered in Ebay -- placed our materials -- and it was a amazing result. Not only the new ebay customers , -- but those old patrons of my husband -- gradually found us . In a word, Ebay saved our family from being perished. Thanks to Ebay !! laphilatelia
I am putting my eBay experience as a story ...about a year back I bought TV tuner card from eBay and used the same...after that when i bought a new television the TV tuner card was stopped getting used.
I decided to sell that first to my office people..but people offered me peanuts...phew I never knew my office people are so poor..
anyway i put the same on eBay and i started getting bids..and i sold the same to a very good price (almost double what my office people were offering!)
so, it's a place where you get options..options to trade better!
i have been enjoying this expereince since Baazee.com days..and will continue to do so in future also..
thanks for reading! have a nice time bidding buying and selling..
Hello, I sold a Rajasthani Item to a buyer in Kashmir. It took a lot of time to reach the packet to his place. The buyer was really very nice and polite. He was very happy to have received the packet and sent me a mail to specially thank me. He left a similar feedback for the item.
Hi everyone, i hope you are all ready to listen to my story. I wished i would be a proud owner buy a Sony Ericsson K800i Phone, but came to know that it would not be released in India. But i was a Avid fan of baazee.com in which i had bid about 25+items and bought all of them, i saw a listing by xxxxxx who had recently registered user, he had K800i listed, i also won the same phone with in 5 days, but i thought of paying the money through Paisa pay, but for my luck or something, my bank name was removed from that list and was a notice that there is no onine transaction that could be done through paisa pay, also for my good luck the user xxxxxx account was deactivated / disabled, it was showing that 'This user is no longer registered on eBay.', this shattered the dreamz of my owning a K800i which i had won for a reasonable price, but in vain that option was closed and to my luck i had not paid. I wish this dreamz will be true if ebay take the right action, to curb the wrong auctions.
A few months ago, I sold a lingerie set to a young man in Kashmir. There were a few delays in the parcel reaching him as his house in Kashmir was not in a safe location. Finally after a lot of trouble, I finally managed to find a courier company ready to deliver in his location. The young guy was so excited at receiving it that he actually called me in bombay and said "We really enjoyed the product last night"..apparently this young man was recently married and wanted to gift the lingerie set to his wife..his happiness and innocence really touched me after I realised he was not being obscene but genuinely happy.
I am Rajesh G. Chavan (ebay ID:rgchavan12). I am a member since 13-Sep-2002. Associating with ebay has been an exiting and most exhilarating journey. What I enjoyed most was surfing for the new various types of items, specially consumer electronics. Through ebay (previously Baazee.com) I came to know many types of different kinds of items which is practically not possible to be viewed in the departmental stores. The most exciting feature of ebay is that I am able to read and know the technical details of the item so that I have a fairly good idea of what the stuff is made up off. Based on this I could zeroed on the item to be purchased. The most enjoyable part for me was to bid for the item and then watch every day or perhaps every hour how the bidding is progressing. It gave me immense pleasure to watch that I am winning the bid and when I won the item at the least cost, my joy knew no bounds. I then use to discuss this phenomenon of bidding with my friends and with my family members. Lots of my friends have joined ebay just because of me and the way in which you can get the item cheaply through ebay. Through ebay lots of communication took place with all the sellers from whom I purchased the items and practically all of them gave me positive ratings with good comments. I always tried to be prompt in my dealings specially the payment part to the seller is concerned. Many sellers gave me good comments for the prompt payment and some of them called me “Perfect Baazeegar” and an asset. These sort of comments boosted my morale and lifted me to the seventh sky. I wish Ebay all the success.
DIDI,BUONA DI SERA, I was with Swarup in the afternoon. He told me his story about teaching a hungarian user to wear saree etc etc.He should share this with all.Isnt it? Thanx, Truly, Amitava

Hi Sapana Nice to know that community queen is back with another sweet contest.
I have something to share... everyone can see the moving globes in my listing pages.
One day i got a message from a power seller of UK Yvonne , he sells CHANDELIERS on ebay.com and ebay.co.uk site.
He wrote me a message "How did you moved these globes on your page ?"
His message made me laugh and I felt so nice to know that people like the pages i designed it was so nice to hear from Yvonne He wrote me again "can you tell me how you get your ebey site like this as round globe moving .i am based in the uk. thank you yvonne"
I told him that i designed the pages myself and also gave him the whole html coding for the webpage but he did not knew how to use that html code and how to change the pictures and descriptions so was unable to create his pages.
Than I designed pages for him and also mailed yvonne all print screen images to show the step by step instruction for using the html code in designing the ebay listing ....
all step by step instructions i.e click sell button than ... choose html code.. now paste the matter ..extra extra in full details with all pring screen images.
It took 2 weeks for me to train Yvonne on how to move the globes. Finally he did it .. and i saw his listings live with moving globes
YES ! IT FEELS SO GUD THAT HE FINALLY GOT THE DESIGN FOR HIS LOVELY CHANDELIERS.
IT REALLY FEELS SO GUD ON EBAY WHEN SOMEONE PRAISES YOUR WORK .. LOVES YOUR PRODUCTS PRAISES THE LOVELY PACKING ... ONCE A OLD LADY BOUGHT RUBY BEADS NECKLACE FROM MY STORE AND AFTER RECIEVING THE SAME SHE LEFT SO TOUCHING COMMENTS THAT I CAN NEVER EVER FORGET HER WORDS .. SHE WROTE TO ME "for the remarks on ebay they allow very few words - so I wanted to thank you and tell you that you are the best!!! just the packaging is worth ordering from you - what an incredible presentation - like it was my birthday or something - you are above and beyond and I truly appreciate it - what gorgeous rubies - thank you thank you thank you" "THIS MAY BE THE BEST PURCHASE I HAVE MADE IN 52 YEARS!!! THANK YOU!!!"
her Message put a giant smile on my mouth... . She is really kind. In this despersonalizated world, where all is fast and superficial, impersonal, agressive... to find people like her on ebay is a balsam for soul.
I just love Ebay ... and ebay Community ... "Lord, I have done many things wrong. I am guilty, but to show your goodness, forgive me for everything I did. When people choose to follow the Lord, he shows them the best way to live.” ·:*¨¨*:·.God·:*¨¨*:·.Bless·:*¨¨*:·.Us·:*¨¨*:·.All·:*¨¨*:·.
This is a poem by a_seasonal_pinch, my Irish sister about my new born kittens:
Little Rays Of Life:::
We are little rays of life meant to help you deal with everyday strife We are only little but we know Without you Amitava and your family where would we go? You and your family took us in and loved us so, tomorrow will be a new dawn ,a new day. so Amitava it is to God we pray that he sent us your way. Our wise and beautiful mother tells our generation our story and when she had to leave us to return and find us happy and well. this she said is a story for ever to tell. We love our adoptive family more that they know! a bad or unwise vibe will be for us a detection. Dealt with before a single flaw is seen. Glad we are our mummy seen Your family she watched a day or two. then she took us in her belly through. Lots of love Your kittens XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxxxx0XXXXXXX
This is exactly what she wrote. Please tell Maria how you like that. Thanx for reading this. Truly, Amitava
hello, I am from Germany, and which particularly mad I find am the international trade, and the communication. I feel, as if I on travel am, because I am Internet moderate in the strange country. I even already bought something in India. beautiful salwar kameez, is very inspired.
